Do You Want to Write 12 Picture Books in 12 Months? | Learn More!

12 x 12 December 2017 Check-In!

Wow. The end of another year of 12 x 12. Tomorrow we’ll start a new one. Hard to believe and always bittersweet.

Mostly I just want to say how proud I am of all of you and remind you how much you mean to me. I wake up each day knowing you’re there, and it never fails to help me reconnect with my purpose. This community really IS a family. One member of the family is actually with me right now to ring in the New Year, none other than Critique Ninja and all-around awesome woman, Julie Rowan-Zoch!

I did not get any writing or revising this month. I think that makes it two months in a row. But I know my patterns. I tend to start the year strong, so expect BIG things from me in January and February. LOL

I hope you will take a moment, in the spirit of our Friday Dance parties (and in honor of Marcie), to reflect on what you DID accomplish in 2017. Please celebrate each and every one. Yes, it is time to look forward and set goals, but you just finished a full year of 12 x 12 and no matter how many manuscripts you wrote, you are a WINNER. You are here. You show up. You are doing far more than the vast majority of people do to reach their dreams. I toast to you all!

Now it’s your turn!

Tell us your progress. Did you complete a draft and/or revision in December? Let us know in the Rafflecopter and in the comments. Our prize comes from this month’s Featured Author Marcie Colleen. Marcie is giving away THREE prizes for our December check-in—a signed copy of LOVE, TRIANGLE, a signed copy of THE SUPER HAPPY PARTY BEARS #8: TINY PRANCER, and a picutre book critique.

Here is what you need to do to check in for a chance to win:

  1. See the Rafflecopter widget at the end of this post that says “One of three prizes from Marcie Colleen at the top.
  2. Click on the “Comment on Marcie’s post” button. Commenting on Marcie’s post is mandatory for this giveaway and you can enter the Rafflecopter even if you didn’t write a draft this month. You can comment on the post here.  Click ENTER.
  3. Click on the “Wrote a PB Draft” button. This will ask if you completed a PB draft in December. If you did, click ENTER, if not, move on to the next step.
  4. Click on the last “Revised a PB Draft” button. This will ask if you revised a PB in December. If you did, click ENTER. If not, move on to the next step.
  5. That’s it! Rafflecopter will track your points.

You have until midnight Eastern on January 2nd to enter your results. Rafflecopter will draw a winner and it will be announced on the blog on January 3rd.

(Remember, monthly draft and revision badges are awarded separately from your Rafflecopter entry. If you did not request your December badge before the forum closed, you will be able to request after you register for 12 x 12 in 2018.)

  1. This has been my first year with 12×12, but it’s been so rich in education and networking, and so fulfilling, that I feel like I’ve been at it forever! What a gift, to feel so affirmed on this path. I’m very thankful to have all of you.

  2. This is really sad…the last post of 2017. But tomorrow starts a new year! A new chance to write even more picture books, to learn more through inspirting blog posts and webinars, to get encouragement and critiques. I can’t wait to sign up for 12×12 again!

Oh yeah…I wrote two picture books in December amid all the craziness that starts at Thanksgiving and will continue until at least tomorrow.

Thanks, Julie, for providing this group for us!

  4. I joined 12 x 12 in early March, 2017. It was one of my best choices, ever. As Marcie says, this community is what holds us together, and keeps us going. So grateful for my 12 x 12 family. I wrote 3 drafts in December, which puts me over 12 drafts for the year. This would not have happened without 12 x 12. So grateful. Happy New Year, Y’all!

  5. I became totally wrapped up in the writing of my Non Fiction series which I began in November. Two more PB’s to add to the list.

I also revised 2 of my old PB manuscripts and am still working on the revisions of my chapter book, Footprints in the Snow.

Hope everyone has a Happy Healthy New Year!!

  6. Happy New Year to All!
The door just opened to 2018 and I for one am eager to step on the new path to a fulfilling and prosperous writing year. I awoke this morning to complete revisions of a manuscript. In 2018 my first picture book is slated to be published and I could not have done it without the support of my critique groups and the 12 x 12 community. The road to publication can be long but it certainly does not have to be.

Happy New Year to all and Happy Writing!
    Go 12 x 12 in 2018!

  7. Happy New Year all! Julie, thank you for another great year of learning and sharing through 12 x 12!

I revised a manuscript of poetry this month, including the addition of 4 new poems. I’m excited to see what 2018 brings!

  8. Happy New Year, Julie. It was great to meet you in person at the Barn, as well as learn with you in 12 x 12 all year long!

  9. I wrote three new drafts in December and revised an older draft. 2017 was my best year for writing and revising picture books yet! I’m grateful for 12×12 and all of the people who make it a wonderful community. Happy New Year!

  10. 2017 was a true growth year for me. Thank you Julie and team for an extraordinary year! I wrote a draft and revised the month of December, 2017 🙂 I’m looking forward to my 12×12 experience in 2018!! Happy New Year! Happy Creativity!
