Kim Chaffee used to hold the Guinness World Record for the largest game of pick-up sticks ever played. (It’s true! Check out pg. 111 of the 2005 edition) She is a former second-grade teacher who loves coffee, chocolate, and writing picture books that kids will want to read again and again. Don’t ask her to pick a favorite between writing fiction or non-fiction- she could never choose! Kim is the author of Her Fearless Run: Kathrine Switzer’s Historic Boston Marathon illustrated by Ellen Rooney, Nothing Wee About Me illustrated by Laura Bobbiesi, and the forthcoming Courage in Her Cleats: The Story of Soccer Star Abby Wambach illustrated by Alexandra Badiu. Her picture book, Her Fearless Run: Kathrine Switzer’s Historic Boston Marathon, was inspired by her own journey with running and now she works part time for Kathrine Switzer’s nonprofit, 261 Fearless, which aims to empower women through running, all around the world. Kim has been a member of 12×12 since 2015 and believes there is nothing better than the support of the picture book creatives in this group. Kim is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire and now lives not too far from there with her husband, two kids, and two cats.
