Heather Preusser was born and raised in Maine, went to college in Massachusetts, lived in Germany for two years, and now calls Colorado home. She writes about plucky characters finding their place, and her debut picture book, A Symphony of Cowbells, was released by Sleeping Bear Press. She has an MFA in creative writing as well as sixteen years of experience teaching English in both middle- and high-school classrooms. She enjoys teaching texts because, to borrow from essayist and poet Kim Stafford, she believes “A story saves life a little at a time by making us see and hear and taste our lives and dreams more deeply.” Similarly, as a Critique Ninja, she hopes she can help other writers fulfill these dreams—both on and off the page. In addition to being an active member of 12×12 since its inception, she also mentors writers through both Inked Voices as well as RMC-SCBWI’s Michelle Begley program. She is represented by Janine Le at the Janine Le Literary Agency. When she’s not reading or writing, Heather and her toddler son visit local fairy gardens and marvel at construction vehicles.
