Beth Volkmann

Beth Volkmann is a former early childhood educator, ESL teacher, once-upon-a-time children’s store owner, and life-long learner in the fields of child development. literacy and, of course, literature. Beth writes under the influence of Nature and hopes that her stories can engender excitement, curiosity and wonder in young readers who happen upon her (future) books. She writes fiction and nonfiction, picture and chapter books, poetry and prose, and even hopes to write a screenplay one day.

She joined 12 x 12 in 2020 and immediately sensed she had landed in Kidlit Wonderland! Having been part of several kidlit communities in the past, Beth is convinced 12 x 12 is the kindest, smartest, and most supportive community any children’s book author could hope for.

No matter what stage of the process she has found herself, 12 x 12 is the only place that satisfies her need for interaction, information, celebration, and participation. It is just the BEST! Both of her critique groups formed because of 12 x 12, she’s become friends with some of her favorite kidlit authors, and knows she will have the needed support when her time comes to query, submit, and become a published author herself!

As an Elf in the Reading Like Writers section of the forum, Beth is looking forward to exploring picture books with community members to figure out how and why these marvels work the way that do!
