Lynnette Novak and Minju Chang June 2020 Agents

Lynnette Novak and Minju Chang – 12 x 12 Featured Agents June 2020

It’s a new month and time for two more agents to accept submissions from our 12 x 12 GOLD members in June. Our 2020 Little GOLDen Book members will be able to choose one of these two agents to submit their manuscript to this month.

Lynnette Novak of The Seymour Agency will be accepting picture book submissions from 12 x 12 GOLD members June 1-15. Minju Chang of Bookstop Literary will be accepting picture book submissions from 12 x 12 GOLD members June 16-30. Lynnette’s profile appears first, followed by Minju’s. Please read BOTH and then decide who would be the best fit for your work.

A little bit about Lynnette:

Prior to joining The Seymour Agency, Lynnette spent seventeen years freelance editing. She worked with new writers, advanced writers, as well as New York Times and USA Today bestselling authors. Lynnette earned a bachelor of education degree from the University of Manitoba, where she specialized in English and French. She excelled in Advanced Creative Writing in university and studied writing for children and teens through the Institute of Children’s Literature. She was a Pitch Wars mentor in 2015 and 2016. Both her mentees acquired an agent.

Although Lynnette was born and raised in Manitoba, Canada, she now lives in Minnesota with her husband, twin girls, and many pets. Her personal interests include reading, writing, exercising at the gym (okay, that’s a love/hate relationship), working on an assortment of crafts, all things having to do with animals (if she could own a farm, zoo, and animal shelter, she would), and enjoying time with family and friends.

Here is what Lynnette had to say when asked what she is looking for in picture books today:

“I’m always looking for #ownvoices and #diversity. I like funny picture books that have a clear theme and don’t feel like forced humor. I also like books with a story that teaches values and/or how to deal with situations kids might encounter (without feeling preachy or didactic). Most importantly, I want books that will stand out in this crowded market.”

This is Lynnette’s first year as a 12 x 12 Featured Agent. Here are a few additional resources:

Minju Chang – Bookstop Literary

A little bit about Minju:

“Minju Chang joined BookStop Literary Agency in 2006. She represents both fiction and nonfiction in all children’s book categories: picture books, chapter books, middle-grade, graphic novels and YA. She also represents illustrators.

Minju is looking for a wide range of picture book projects, everything from lyrical and thought-provoking to quirky and laugh-out-loud hilarious. She is always on the lookout for an unusual and authentic ‘insider’ point of view, stories that shift her perspective of the world, and vivid settings that make her want to linger and explore.”

When asked what she’s looking for in picture books, Minju said:

“In both fiction and non-fiction, I’m looking for timely, emotionally engaging picture books that beg to be read again and stories that open to my eyes to an under-explored perspectives, histories, and worlds. An unusual and unexpected concept or voice is always welcome, as are stories with rich visual potential. My tastes are broad so I welcome everything from lyrical, contemplative texts to silly and clever wordplay.”

Minju was a Featured Agent last year. You can find our profile on her HERE. Here are some resources for Minju:
