I had an interesting writing month. I both wrote and revised a draft that was a re-write of a completed manuscript that had been on submission, got very close to getting picked up several times, but missed the mark. I’m back at it, but felt the need to start fresh rather than continue with the older version.
Also, given Miranda Paul’s amazing webinar on keeping momentum in your writing, I decided I needed a greater force to exert upon myself to keep things moving. I found this website called stikk.com, where you can set any goal, any timeframe, and any consequence for failing to meet the goal. My goal is to give my agent four submission-ready (or close to) manuscripts by the end of October. So, GULP! But after wallowing through the summer, I really needed a good swift kick, if you know what I mean. 😉
Now tell us your progress. Did you complete a draft and/or revision in September? Let us know in the Rafflecopter and in the comments. This month’s winner will win a copy of Toby by Hazel Mitchell and a bag of Toby swag!
Here is what you need to do to check in for a chance to win:
- See the Rafflecopter widget at the end of this post that says “TOBY by Hazel Mitchell” at the top.

- That’s it! Rafflecopter will track your points.
We’ve created a quick video to walk you through your monthly check-in. You can view it in the Video Tutorial section of the forum HERE.
You have until midnight Eastern on October 3rd to enter your results. Rafflecopter will draw a winner and I’ll announce it on the blog on October 4th.

Yay! I did everything this month!
Even though I had more medical issues due to a freak accident involving my knee and a wheelchair I did manage to revise 1 picture book and 1 chapter book as well as adding a new rough draft to my list
Good work this month, everybody!
Yay! I wrote two new drafts and revised a couple old manuscripts this month!
I’m going to check out stickK, Julie. Sounds intriguing!
I am delighted to say I did both write and revise….and the revision is a re revision that I will slave over until it gets published!!! I put it out there for critiques and got some great feedback so I am going for round uhhh 15??? in the critique count of this particular manuscript!
I wrote a new one and revised for the 15th time???..submitted for critiques and am working it over again! I hope this will eventually be “the one”!
Thank you for the tip on stikk.com, Julie!
I wrote a new draft that I’m really excited about! And I may revise an earlier draft before the day is over. Maybe I’ll make that my first goal on stikk.com 🙂
Comments are up and running again!
I spent most of September working on revisions but I did manage to get a first draft in between yesterday and last night. I am please with that. I believe it is the start of a playful PB series. I have also been reading many of the Full Ms submissions posted this month and so much talent shows up. Way to go everyone!
Have been revising two manuscripts all month…but did find a bit of time to work out a ROOOOOUUGGGGH draft on something new. Looking forward to PB Summit TOMORROW!!!!!
It was a busy month but I got it all done! Thanks for the motivation!
I was inspired by Miranda Paul….then Julie mentioned an amazing book … so I bought and read, Wild Things, by Betsy Bird, Julia Donaldson and Peter D. Sieruta…I was so motivated I not only continued edits and revisions on my first manuscript, I also wrote a story from start to finish! I am smiling with creative joy! Thank you 12X12!
In addition to writing a new PB draft and writing a couple of older ones, I put my work out there much more than I usually do. I posted one manuscript in the forum and another for my 12×12 FB group. I queried ten agents. I submitted a different PB to RGP. I polished a chapter book and sent it out to critique partners. And I entered my YA fantasy in On the Block. There’s probably a lot of rejection coming my way, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. And I was behind on webinars, so I got to watch three inspirational 12×12 webinars this month. I love this group. Thank you for pushing me to be better!
Revised a PB and submitted the first page at a conference. Agents didn’t “get” what was going on, so that was valuable feedback. Back to revisions!
I revised Dragon coch twice and I put ut a rough draft of nathaniel’s surprise .Now to revise that! I loved Hazels Story and TOby.
I did everything this month but forgot about check-in. It’s been a busy month. Ah well. At least I know I did the writing and revising.
What a busy month. Between writing and learning it has been an up and down experience.
