Frightening how fast this month went by, no? Happy Halloween everyone! I am pleased to report that by the end of today, I will have two manuscripts ready to send to my agent and two more drafts revised and ready for critique. While I ultimately chose the goal of having four ready to go to my agent, I realized halfway through the month that the goal was not only unrealistic, but it would force me to submit work to my agent that I didn’t want her to see yet. So I am calling it done. YAYAYAYAYAYAY!
I did not write a new draft this month with all of that revising, but my goal will be to revise the two going to critique group this month and draft one new ms.
Now tell us your progress. Did you complete a draft and/or revision in October? Let us know in the Rafflecopter and in the comments. This month we will have six winners! Five will win signed copies of The Peddler’s Bed by Lauri Fortino and one will win a manuscript critique from Lauri.
Here is what you need to do to check in for a chance to win:
- See the Rafflecopter widget at the end of this post that says “The Peddler’s Bed” at the top.
- Click on the “Comment on Lauri’s Blog Post” button. It will reveal the task, which is to comment on Lauri’s blog post. If you haven’t comment yet, you can click HERE and comment. Commenting on Lauri’s post and clicking enter will get you one entry in this month’s Rafflecopter whether you completed a draft or not.
- Click on the “Wrote a PB Draft” button. This will ask if you completed a PB draft in October. If you did, click ENTER, if you did not, move on to the next step.
- Click on the last “Revised a PB Draft” button. This will ask if you revised a PB in October. If you did, click ENTER. If not, move on to the next step.
- That’s it! Rafflecopter will track your points.
We’ve created a quick video to walk you through your monthly check-in. You can view it in the Video Tutorial section of the forum HERE.
You have until midnight Eastern on November 1st to enter your results. Rafflecopter will draw a winner and I’ll announce it on the blog on November 2nd.
Give thanks for another month of writing in November and get your draft down on paper!

I’m so excited that I got both a draft and revision done this month! I’m on track to have 12 (or more) drafts and revisions by the end of 2016!
Congratulations on getting stuff done this month, Julie! October was a good month for me. I wrote a new PB, revised some old ones, and I got a request for a PB from an agent that I’d love to work with. *crossing fingers* Also, we had some amazingly inspiring webinars through 12×12 over the last month. Thanks for all you do!
I feel like I am making a dash everywhere lately and all I want to do is walk for a while. A new story came with the holiday contest and revsions were abounding since my computer took an unwanted restart.
So happy to say I was able to get a revision done, per an editor’s critique earlier this year, AND send it back out to said editor this month. 🙂 *Big, BIG sigh of satisfaction*
I am on track again this month with draft, revisions, and a contest entry.
Good writing times.?
I completed a draft and a revision for October. I am thankful to 12×12 for inspiring me to keep BIC! I entered one of my mss in the Ripple Grove Press opportunity last month. The inspiration I find here helped me work up the nerve.
Julie, this year has been a real learning curve for me. I still need courage to put my book ideas out there but i have enjoyed the challenge so far and lovely the friendly critiques. Thank you for organising such a wonderful site with Kelli P’s help and others too.
I completed a holiday themed manuscript, revised it and entered into a contest. Even started on a new draft idea for Nov. Managing to carve out more and more time for my writing and enjoying every minute. Its still never enough!!
You’ve been hard at work Julie Hedlund, so enjoy all the H’ween candy this week 🙂
Thank goodness for Susanna Hill’s Halloweensie Contest…my entry is my October PB draft…and I rewrote the beginning and ending…and a lot of the middle…of another pb manuscript that an editor liked but wanted to see changes. Done and done! On to November. 🙂
Does this mean you are only going to send half the money to the Cause of Not Your Choice?
Sorry to be late posting this, but October was a crazy, crazy month. I did manage to revise 2 picture books and as well as adding 2 new rough drafts to my list
