12 x 12 March 2024 Check-In!

Happy April! Did March fly by or is it just me? It went by so fast that I did not write a new draft but I do have two manuscripts on submissions. So, it’s time to press ahead to April.

What about you?

  • Did you complete a draft of a new picture book story in March?
  • Did you complete a revision of a previous picture book manuscript in March?
  • Did you post a review of a 12 x 12 member book on Amazon, GoodReads, or Barnes and Noble?
  • Did you request that your local library purchase a 12 x 12 member’s book that they don’t currently have in circulation?

  8. Click on the last “Requested your local library purchase a copy of a 12 x 12 member’s book” button. This will ask if you requested your local library to purchase a 12 x 12 member’s picture book. If you did, enter a link to your review and click ENTER. If not, click cancel.
  9. That’s it! There is no overall submit button or email confirmation. Rafflecopter will track your points. (The top of the Rafflecopter will say X/5 with X being the number of entries you currently have in the drawing.)

  1. Sharon Fumimoto-Johnson’s blog sheds light on the magical and scientific powers of creating a meaningful picture book. Mochi Makers is book full of love, pride, and cultural memories. It was written during the years when Sharon was fighting for her life. It provided the nourishment needed to win the battle. This book not only spreads knowledge and joy to young readers, but its writing provided the creative therapy medicine Sharon Fumimoto-Johnson desperately needed to recover.

  2. I wrote two new picture book drafts and did a revision. There were so many more revisions I wanted to make, but March was busy and I’m not sure where all of my time went. I’m hoping to get through more revisions in April. Wish me luck and a bit of spare time.

Financial Need Scholarship Guidelines

All applications will be accepted via email only between November 1, 2024 – November 30, 2024 at kelli@juliehedlund.com.

Subject line of the email:

  1. 12 x 12 Financial Need Scholarship
 

Please include the following in the body of the email:

  1. An autobiographical statement and career summary in 250 words or fewer.
  2. A short statement describing the nature of the financial need/circumstances in 250 words or fewer.
  3. A sample query letter for the manuscript you are submitting with your application.
  4. Pitches for two additional completed picture books.
 

 Attached to the email:

  1.  The full text of one picture book manuscript, attached as a Word document named as FIN_YourFirstName_YourLastName_Title_of_Manuscript.doc (or docx).
