12 X 12 July 2018 Check-In!

12 x 12 July 2018 Check-In!

July was a pretty slow month for me writing wise, I admit. But I did dig into a revision that has brought one of my manuscripts closer to submission-ready. Summer is an eternally difficult time for me to write given kids out of school, etc., so no new draft this month. But I’ve learned to accept it for what it is and not beat myself up over it.

How about you?

Tell us your progress. Did you complete a draft and/or revision in July? Let us know in the Rafflecopter and in the comments. Our prize comes from this month’s Featured Author Jami Gigot. We will have two 12 x 12 winners this month. One winner will win a copy of Mae and the Moon and one winner will win a copy of Seb and the Sun.

How cool is that?

Here is what you need to do to check in for a chance to win:

  1. See the Rafflecopter widget at the end of this post that says “Mae in the Moon or Seb and the Sun at the top.
  2. Click on the “Comment on Jami’s post” button. Commenting on Jami’s post is mandatory for this giveaway and you can enter the Rafflecopter even if you didn’t write a draft this month. You can comment on the post here.  Click ENTER.

  4. Click on the last “Revised a PB Draft” button. This will ask if you revised a PB in July. If you did, click ENTER. If not, move on to the next step.
  5. That’s it! Rafflecopter will track your points.

You have until midnight Eastern on August 2nd to enter your results. Rafflecopter will draw a winner and it will be announced on the blog on August 3rd.

You do not need to post your manuscript and/or revisions on the forum for them to count. If you wrote or revised a manuscript in July, even if it’s scribbled on a napkin in your car, then enter the Rafflecopter below.

(Remember, monthly draft and revision badges are awarded separately from your Rafflecopter entry. Watch this handy tutorial to find out how to get your badges. CLICK HERE.)

  1. July was incredibly busy and productive month for me. I finished my required course-work for my 60-credit MFA program at Hollins University which included two critical writing classes. In which, I read over a dozen novels and wrote over a dozen two page critical response papers to to them, as well as two final research papers much longer in length (8-10 pages). I also gave four presentations in class, and presented at our end-of-term literary conference.

I somehow managed to write a new pb draft and work on a revision or two, and just drove home over the last of couple days.

Onto August, and my MFA thesis! (3 picture books with finished art samples and a 20 page critical paper, hopefully completed before this spring.)

    Happy writing and illustrating, all!

  2. July was a busy month, but I worked on a new manuscript and revisions. The smoke and ash from the Carr Park Fire were definitely a disturbing and interrupting the writing process.

  3. I didn’t have as much time to write as usual, but when I did, I really tried to be a focused little bunny. This helped me to complete a first draft and tweak three manuscripts … two of which I’m going to take the plunge with and start to submit … gulp!

  4. July was surprisingly productive for me. I was able to write a first draft of a new story, and revise a manuscript including illustrations. I am super excited about these stories, less excited about the tendinitis I think I now have after pushing to finish the book dummy. I am hoping August is just as productive minus the tendinitis!

  5. Still not sure how July ended so quickly when just a month ago, it loomed before me like a giant mass of days to fill. Between redecorating, summer camp, oversea visitors to host and more, I wrote 3 new drafts!! They’re not pretty but they have all the key components. I may not write something new in Aug and focus on beach fun & revision instead 🙂

  6. July was a busy month…and HOT! I revised a couple of stories and wrote a draft while keeping my cool-LOL Love Jami’s stories and the awesome illos. I’m ready to jump into August. Wishing everyone well during this dry summer.

  7. I worked on revisions quite a bit this month & then surprised myself with two new picture book manuscripts – one of which I’ve already gotten very positive feedback on from Rate Your Story. Sorry to see July go, but hope I can keep the momentum up.

  8. I spent most of July working on a novel for CampNaNoWriMo, but I also wrote a couple of first drafts for July. One of them I’ve revised already. Not sure if it’s any good, but at least I got some PB writing in!

  9. P.S. I failed at producing a draft in June. However, I completed three in July, even though both months were staggeringly busy. Patting myself on the back.

  10. Well, we’re headed towards Fall and kids will all be heading back to school. Where did summer go? I added another rough draft from my list of Storystorm ideas. I also revised another picture book that I wrote for this year’s NaPiBoWriWee. Then I worked on my revisions for Anya, and another 2 chapters of Ned, my middle grade novel.

  11. I’ve worked on revisions all month long. Same revisions over and over again. Change a word – change it back. You writers know what mean. I submited to three publishers and got three rejections. So feeling bleh. But love writing anyway.
