Do You Want to Write 12 Picture Books in 12 Months? | Learn More!

12 x 12 July 2016 Check-in!

July was a good month for writing! Many times the looser summer schedule means it’s harder for me to find time to sit down and write, but this month I not only wrote a new draft, I revised an old one. Let me tell you, it feels good to be writing again.

Now tell us your progress. Did you complete a draft and/or revision in July? Let us know in the Rafflecopter and in the comments. This month’s winner will win The Complete Guide to Picture Book Submissions created by Emma Walton Hamilton and me to help picture book writers craft their best submissions letters to agents and editors.

Here is what you need to do to check in for a chance to win:

  1. See the Rafflecopter widget at the end of this post that says “The Complete Guide to Picture Book Submissions” at the top.
  2. There was no author post this month, so click the first option if you are a Picture Book Writer. (Hint: If you’re a 12 x 12 member, you ARE a picture book writer!) Hit ENTER and move on to the next step.
  3. Click on the “Wrote a PB Draft” button. This will ask if you completed a PB draft in July. If you did, click ENTER, if you did not, move on to the next step.
  4. Click on the last “Revised a PB Draft” button. This will ask if you revised a PB in July. If you did, click ENTER. If not, move on to the next step.
  5. That’s it! Rafflecopter will track your points.

We’ve created a quick video to walk you through your monthly check-in. You can view it in the Video Tutorial section of the forum HERE.

You have until midnight Eastern on August 1st to enter your results. Rafflecopter will draw a winner and I’ll announce it on the blog on August 2nd.

Use these dog days of summer to get your writing done!

  1. Even though I am still plagued with medical issues, had blood work and CT scans for possible surgery this coming month, I did manage to revise 3 picture books and added 2 new rough drafts to my list

    1. I had a CT scan too, and minor surgery. I hope you get better soon. I too wrote. It was good to have my mind on something else, compared to how I felt. Get well.

  2. Not only did I revise 2 older MSs, I wrote 2 new ones! Not sure how since July was quite busy, but there you have it 🙂

  3. Such a busy month! I didn’t get to revise any drafts, but I did draft a new PB. So I’m happy to have a total of 7 drafts in 7 months! My revisions pile is getting bigger 🙂

  7. Wow! It looks like everyone is really committed despite the backpack of troubles, medical or other, that they have to deal with as well. I know the waiting around for doctor’s appointments takes time out of your day. I think you’re fabulous!

  8. My first entry of the year, woot woot!! 🙂 Now, if I can manage TWO a month, I could be all caught up by December. 😉

  9. I have been working with several stories since I joined 12×12 which I continue to edit and revise. I am so grateful to be part of this program!

  10. I revised three manuscripts this month and got ideas for several new stories, but didn’t get a chance to write a new one. I had started off on a roll this year but now need to do some catching up. Feeling confident with my new story ideas that I can do this!!! I hope everyone else is having a good year of it!

  11. I wrote a draft for the Ripple Grove Press contest, “The General Store.” Can’t wait to see what happens!

  12. I wrote a revision this month and I am working on several other revisions at the same time. When I get bored of one, I jump to another. This sometimes drives me batty but I keep busy. Good luck to all who enter the Ripple Grove Contest.

  13. Continuing to Submit, submit , submit and to get manuscripts ready for Ripple Grove. Can not let opportunities like that get away. !2 X 12 Rocks!
