Do You Want to Write 12 Picture Books in 12 Months? | Learn More!

12 x 12 February 2024 Check-In!

Here we are at the end of month two, a leap day, and the last day of registration for 2024. Whew! It’s already been a ride. Welcome to everyone who joined recently – glad you’re here! I am determined to win the challenge this year, but I didn’t get a draft done this month. So that means two in March! I did revise two manuscripts though, which is something.

What about you?

  • Did you complete a draft of a new picture book story in February?
  • Did you complete a revision of a previous picture book manuscript in February?
  • Did you post a review of a 12 x 12 member book on Amazon, GoodReads, or Barnes and Noble?
  • Did you request that your local library purchase a 12 x 12 member’s book that they don’t currently have in circulation?

Let us know in the Rafflecopter and the comments.

February Featured Author Dazzle Ng is offering one lucky 12 x 12 member a PB critique (no rhyme).

That’s awesome, Dazzle! Thank you!

  1. You Dazzled me with your concise but lyrical, impactful and heartfelt explanation of the picture book writing experience. Thank you for your inspiration and yes “no” is a little word with a big impact on a little person . The most gentle “no” to my toddler granddaughter can’t turn a happy face into a sad one immediately. I use the word most sparingly. Your writing is lovely.

  2. Checking in! I revised a PB draft in February and reviewed a 12×2 member’s book on Goodreads. I also requested a copy of a 12×12 members’ book at my library. Happy March everyone:)

  3. I found Dazzle’s remarks and insights really enlightening. I really appreciated the line about how all the rules are “there not to confine, but to refine.” Very helpful.

  4. Thanks! My local library doesn’t allow frequent book requests so I can’t really check that box. May not be fair to include it as part of the check in if others have that same restriction too.

  5. I don’t know how I managed to do more in a shorter month, but I’m so excited to report that I revised 2 manuscripts and drafted a new one! I wasn’t able to catch the book chat and Feb Webinar live, but I did watch the replays. Another habit I’ve gotten into the past year is reading the new picture books that arrive at my local library each month. My goal in March is to review a 12×12 member’s picture book and learn how to request a 12×12 member’s picture book.

  6. I joined 12×12 on Feb. 28, so I may be a little behind. For February, I revised a book that I’d written in 2023.

  7. Yikes! I missed the deadline primarily because I was busy pumping out nonfiction work for the class writing nonfiction for children class at UCSD that JUST ended. But I want to go on record for having a very productive February (and January). I wrote two nonfiction pieces about marine animals and a biography about a contemporary cetologist. For my wonderful new 12X12 critique group, I revised the 800-word PB that I submitted earlier in February. And I commented on the Featured Author’s post, which was a delight!

    Can latecomers still request badges?
