Do You Want to Write 12 Picture Books in 12 Months? | Learn More!

12 x 12 February 2020 Check-In!

Happy Leap Day, everyone! Aren’t you glad we got a whole extra day to write those February drafts? I am, since I wrote mine yesterday evening. So, I’m two for two this year so far. Same with revisions. I revised a manuscript that I’m almost ready to send back to my agent, so I’m feeling good about my progress this month.

Now, what about you?

Tell us your progress. Did you complete a draft and/or revision in February? Let us know in the Rafflecopter and in the comments. February Featured Author Fatma Al-Lawati is offering two books for prizes: Maryam’s Journal and The Adventure of the Ten Fingers!

Maryam's Journal by Fatma Anwer Al-Lawati

  5. That’s it! Rafflecopter will track your points. (The top of the Rafflecopter will say X/3 with X being the number of entries you currently have in the drawing.)

  1. I’ve been so busy traveling and book launching, I haven’t written anything new…but I did do revisions of a manuscript prior to submitting it to Sylvie Frank for the Picture Book Summit opportunity. And now it is #50PreciousWords time so I doubt there is any new manuscript writing in my future, at least till the end of March. But I’m loving what I am doing…and so glad to have 12×12 as a motivator and supporter.

  2. My February draft is a collection of animal poems, so I’m still working on it, but I’m excited about what I’ve written so far!

  3. February was a little more hectic but I did get one revision and one pb draft done. I also submitted (today) to 50 Precious Words. Hoping to keep on track in March. 🙂

  4. I got a lot accomplished in February! Wrote a draft, revised an old story, and signed up for the first time on Twitter! Learning a lot in the process. Also submitted to 3 publishers. Hoping to submit more in March! So much inspiration from everyone!

  5. Managed to get a first draft done, so am two for two … yeah! Also revised a couple of manuscripts ready for their next critiques, so am moving forward. Had one of my manuscripts long listed in a competition, which gave me a real boost during month where I was starting to feel a bit low.

  6. I finished a new draft! Two so far. I’m waiting for two books to come out this year – They were my March 2017 and May 2017 drafts! That’s my motivation.

  7. I wrote and revised two manuscripts this month. Fixing to start storyboard/illustrations on one of them. 12×12 really inspires me so much to keep my butt in the chair!

  8. I wrote 3 rough drafts and am currently editing one. New ideas added to the list and pictures for inspiration too. Very productive month!

  9. Revised two stories this month. Have a title for a new story in mind, but the story itself is
still ‘locked’ somewhere in my mind. Must do something about ‘encouraging’ it to come out!

  10. Thanks to Leap Year, I finished a draft and a revision this month. So happy that 12×12 is here for motivation.

  11. A new draft & revising for me this month. Hopefully, though, 2020 won’t be like 2019, when I started strong & then the momentum slowed. Or maybe that’s just my writing cycle?

  12. So thankful for this encouraging community. I wrote an MS and got some great feedback from the forum. I also revised one of my MS from last year, but unfortunately didn’t get any agent/editor love on #PBPitch. I did receive a shout out in the Valentiny contest though.

  13. I did complete a MS for 50 precious words. Have a goal to at least revise a MS this month…maybe even write a new one from my NFFest or Story Storm ideas. I am so glad to be in my second year of 12×12. Thank you.

  14. I’m happy to have written a solid draft this month — solid enough to send to my critique group. And have revised a couple other books in the works, including a revision on a dummy book that my agent will be submitting soon. Wahoo! Thanks 12X12 for the kick in the seat of the pants. I can finally see my writing and illustration career moving forward.

  15. Revised a draft from January AND submitted it to a writing family, near and dear to my heart, soon to post in the 12 x 12 forum (possibly to include illustrations! lol). Over the month of January, caught a bundle of lovely story prompts and developed three into reasonable rough drafts. Excited.

  16. Even with the extra day, this month sped by. I wrote a new draft and revised 2 MS as well. Looking forward to making more progress in March!

  17. I did Study Hall with Marcie Colleen this month and was very productive! Finished a draft, started two more, and made lots of revisions.

  18. I got so caught up in my curious character for Susanna Hill’s Valentiny contest that I forgot about the Valentine part. The good news is, I think it has potential for a picture book. I killed a darling in another story and made it stronger. There may have only been 29 days to get work done, but work I did. Yay!

  19. I accidentally wrote a new draft in February, and thank goodness recognized it so I can count it!

  20. I can’t access either the Jan or Feb badges. I get a “permission error” each time. Thank you.

  21. Alas, February was too short, and I didn’t complete a draft, only a revision of January’s manuscript. I wrote two drafts in March already, though.

  22. I’ve been in a tailspin this month. Several great things happened during the month of February. Most importantly, my first picture book debut is coming, as a result of February’s efforts. I am behind in watching the video guests, but I’ll catch up.

  23. Where is the PB button? I made a comment but it said it was a duplicate. This is my first time doing anything here and I’m not sure why it’s so glitchy. Please advise. I would love to submit my February PB. Thanks!

  24. Productive month – wrote two drafts, revised two older ones, and got two rejection letters :-(. Had a hard time to get motivated to write at the end of the month, but since the beginning of March wrote two new drafts. They are not up to my usual standard for a first draft but hey, still writing 🙂

  25. Overall a productive month for me but Wish I had a couple more days. Still catching up with watching one of the webinars.

  26. February was a great kickstart for writing again (wrote at least one rough draft), inspired by the everyday and various cultural experiences. Excited to write more.

  27. I’ve tried a few times to get rafflecopter to work but it doesn’t seem to like me. Great progress this month, but best was braving Twitter and pitching for the first time.
