Do You Want to Write 12 Picture Books in 12 Months? | Learn More!

12 x 12 August 2015 Check-In!

My August check-in is short and not-as-sweet. I revised a draft early in the month but despite best intentions, did not write a new draft. As we start moving into the final months of the year (yikes!), I am going to have to shift into a higher gear. I hope you all had more writing productivity than I did.

Now tell us your progress. Did you complete a draft and/or revision in August? Let us know in the comments and in the Rafflecopter. This month’s winner will win an autographed copy of THERE WAS AN OLD DRAGON WHO SWALLOWED A KNIGHT from our August Featured Author Penny Parker Klostermann! Good luck to YOU!

There was an Old Dragon Who Swallowed a Knight by Penny Parker Klostermann

Here is what you need to do to check in for a chance to win an autographed book from Penny Parker Klosterman:

  1. See the Rafflecopter widget at the end of this post that says “Autographed Book from Penny Parker Klostermann” at the top.
  2. Click on the “Comment on Penny’s Blog Post” button. It will reveal the task, which is to comment on Penny’s blog post. If you haven’t comment yet, you can click HERE and comment. Commenting on Penny’s Featured Author post and clicking enter will get you one entry in this month’s Rafflecopter whether you completed a draft or not. When you click ENTER on that option in Rafflecopter, the next two options will open up.
  3. Click on the “Wrote a PB Manuscript” button. This will ask if you completed a PB draft in August. If you did, click ENTER, if you did not, move on to the next step.
  4. Click on the last “Revised a PB Manuscript” button. This will ask if you revised a PB in August. If you did, click ENTER. If not, move on to the next step.
  5. Submit your entry. Rafflecopter will track your points.

You have until midnight Eastern on September 1st to enter your results. Rafflecopter will draw a winner and I’ll announce it on the blog on September 2nd.

Summer’s over! Time to fall in to your next manuscript and finish this challenge strong!

  1. I revised one draft and wrote one new draft! I got an idea for another draft, too (but didn’t write anything on it), so I’ll probably work on that for September’s draft. Thankful for the accountability 12×12 offers!

  2. This month was so-so, as I listened to contractors working on the house day in and day out… I’m surprised that I got any writing done at all, but did manage to write a new PB, and revised 2 of my old PiBoIdMo manuscripts. Mostly the month was spent doing research for 2 new PB ideas. Hopefully by mid-September everything will be done and I will once again be surrounded by peace and quiet

  3. I did write a new manuscript, but my writing partner told me it doesn’t work well. Sigh. At least I tried. 🙂

  4. I wrote a new PB and revised another one. More revisions to be done but not a bad month. Glad to be part of this community, sharing the struggle of keeping nose down, spirits up. Happy writing for September!

  5. August went by the wayside, but I wrote one PB ms and did revisions on three other mss. The year is speeding and I wish it would slow down! Wishing everyone happy writing during this transition from summer to fall.

  6. I revised a manuscript that I had previously done a full dummy for. It’s shorter and much better now. I love how this 12×12 process is helping me identify the dead wood that has to go.

  7. 12×12 is truly an inspiring challenge, Julie! I know I wouldn’t have the body of work that I have if not for the encouragement, support, and accountability factor. I did write a new pb draft…so rough it is giving me splinters, but who knows, right? And as always, I am a fiend for revising, so I did revise also. And I submitted to Laura Biagi today with 30 minutes to spare. 😉 😉 Don’t usually cut it so close, but I’ve had my grandson for Grammy Camp these past few weeks PLUS our daughter got engaged today and she and her fiancee closed on their new house and they brought us over to see it. When I got back I realized it was 5:15pm EST and I had to submit by 6pm. 🙂

    1. I submitted an MS to my critique group and realized I was totally taken it in the wrong direction. Never got a chance to edit my piece as August was a very busy month.
I’m looking forward to some quiet fall days and getting more writing and revising done.

  8. I managed to edit three different picture books this month. I did also write one picture book but I’m still in limbo with the ending. I need to just put it down and then workshop it. I keep telling myself but I’m paying no attention.
This month- no excuse however (except I’m moving house) but what the heck?!

  9. I changed a past PB manuscript completely, giving it a new look at the plot and adding another character. I also edited one I wrote in July but I still need to step up my game! TWO manuscripts this month haha.

  10. August was a very good month. I had momentum AND motivation and really knocked some things out. Sure would be nice if this would continue, but I know better. I’ll enjoy it while I can.

  11. I don’t know how to get all of you folks over to my Facebook author page. Any suggestions.
A;so I don’t get the audio on blurbs. is there something that o need to do to activate?
I have revised and revised my stories ( two of them). I hope I’m ready for critiques.
