“Wake me up, when September ends…”

Wait — WHAT? It’s over?? That went at warp speed. No new draft for me this month what with all of the prep for Picture Book Summit, not to mention the Rocky Mountain regional SCBWI conference. I did, however, revise a draft I haven’t touched since last year, so that felt good. I’ve also got ideas brewing in my pot that I feel certain I’ll get to in October.

You know what else? We’re entering the FINAL quarter of the challenge for 2015. It’s always a bittersweet time, but we’ll be celebrating year FIVE next year, and as such, Kelli and I will be raising the roof on the challenge for next year. So get ready. Get your drafts done. Get some rest. Stay hydrated. There’s lots more goodness to come. 🙂

Now tell us your progress. Did you complete a draft and/or revision in September? Let us know in the comments and in the Rafflecopter. This month’s winner will win an autographed copy of ROAR! from our September Featured Author Tammi Sauer! Good luck to YOU!

  1. Just managed to tap out a new draft this month as I was feeling more inspired to revise. This challenge certainly becomes harder as the months tick over, but it’s oh so rewarding to say the least! On a side note, I just watch the ROAR! trailer – So fabulous, go check it out if you haven’t already! I especially loved the special guests who dropped in to say “roar” 🙂

  2. This was a horrible, horrible month for me. BUT personal tragedy gave me an idea for a picture book that HAS to be published. so I managed to write my draft, and I think it’s my best story yet.

  3. The months really are flying by, Julie. I didn’t write a new draft this month…it’s actually the first month I missed this year…there was a lot going on…but PLENTY of revision. Can hardly wait for Saturday and Picture Book Summit!

  4. The ink is still wet, but managed to squeak out a draft & revise a bit, too. Interestingly, the draft I completed was not the one I started at the beginning of September. Hmmm. This may mean I’m a bit ahead for October, if I can keep the momentum up…

  5. I revised early in the month, but a new draft only got finished today (the 30th!). So just barely got it done in time, and it’s not good, but at least there’s something there, which means there’s something to work with! 🙂

  6. This month my nose was to the grindstone and BIC as I was also doing Becky Fyfe’s ChaBooCha Lite. After getting my 12 x 12 picture books (I wrote 3 and revised 2) out of the way with, I finished the revisions for my chapter book, and yesterday, I started in on the revisions of my middle grade novel and have revised the first 4 chapters… 12 more chapters to go!

  7. Glad you got some revision work done, Julie. It sure has been a crazy month for you! I wrote one new ms with the hekp of the participants inthe illustration intensive I took with Dan Yaccarino at our regional conference in Denver! Yay!

  8. This September I had my Uni hand in, so my picture books had to be put on the back burner. Although saying that, I did manage to write a new picture book and edit a different draft. I may work slower than some, but I’m getting more picture books written and edited doing this challenge than I would without it!

  9. I wrote something new this month, and revised a bit – not as much as Tammi discussed in her post, though. Now *that’s* revision!

I don’t want to say it out loud so I’ll just whisper it to myself, but I’m on track to finish 12 manuscripts in 12 months. Only 3 months to go!

  10. Luckily, I banged out a draft September first so I could spend the rest of the month revising and illustrating. Hope to keep the momentum going to finish out the year strong!

  11. I revised the picture book (again and again) that I have been working on really hard. My critique group had good things to say about it. But it still needs more work. Can’t believe it is October already!
